1500 ectos with a few sets of fow armor/chaos gloves aren't that hard to have, if you've been doing high end PvE long enough. Just because some people are rich in game that doesn't mean they are ebayers.
Most of the things about the value of green and gold items is not anets fault. The longer a game has been played the more of a certain item they will find. More of the item = less value. Unless you want Anet to randomly kill off 3/4 the elemental swords or green items that is the only way they can manage this.
Official Article
...stupid ranting...
ShoganKiller-The Official Killer of Shoguns (and the occasional Anet employee)
If you are who you say you are (an ArenaNet employee), then I have one question to ask you: did you expect this level of gold-farming from both players and bots when you shipped GW: Prophecies? Just like you didn't anticipate the need for auction houses or more storage, right?
The people at Anet developed a revolutionary game, but it wasn't prepared for the mighty onslaught that accompanies any successful MMO that includes powertraders, super grinders that do nothing but grind, and unfortunately bots. Now Anet has done various things over the years that affect these (titles, loot-scaling, etc.), but if their game cannot have the adaptability for the auction house, then I think they also understand that their game really has no die-hard bot deterrent (which is why they analyze the game for bot-like activity and allow players to report them). For any MMO, you either have to have features like a bot "deterrent" from the get-go otherwise it is near-impossible to put it in. Which is a reason why they are making GW2, on top of other things (too many skills, f'ed up economy, etc.)
This is why (hopefully) GW2 will be awesome as hell. I sincerely hope for Anet's sake that they learn their lessons from GW1 and make GW2 the best it could be. I don't know how they can have bot deterrent but they're smart, they can figure it out.
Now I don't have much to say about this except... If you don't want us to buy from those companies, don't take away every freaking way to get gold in-game for our selves.
Now, I am not saying that there is no way to make gold in-game for ourselves anymore, but if you look around greens which were in the 15-50k range not even a year ago are now hardly worth 5k, sure there are a few still worth around 20k, but you must agree, hardly any.
Golds, ahh yes, golds... hard to find and still only less than a fourth of them are actually worth anything, and that depends on the mods, req, and skin you get, and like the green issue, an Elemental Sword hardly half a year ago was in the 400k ranges for a req 9, now (you only have to look in the price guide, or in the trade chat for proof) they are worth as much as a Dead Sword before everyone found out how to farm them.
Also, we can't forget the runs... Temple of the Damned is the trend right now, but just like Drok's and Morah runs, just about everyone knows how to run them which means that from the Drok's price of 10k in the beginning to 4-6k in the middle, it has dropped to a miniscule 1-2k, hardly worth the time, right?
So someone is obviously to blame, is it the tragic 12-year old nerd life destroying nerfs? is it the insane idiots that think their cool posting the build on pvxwiki? or is it something else, like the overly-kind runners that reveal their build for all to see?
The main point of this entire article is that there is hardly no way to be profitable enough to look like an original player pimp (I am at 15 sets of 15k and 1 vabbian, and I still don't consider myself one) sure everything has their bottom price and Anet has been lovely people (sarcasm for those who can't tell) and added dungeons, sure, dungeons, that fixes the problem. The profit per hour can't even touch the toes of some of the good farming builds of the past.
Now I did type this article in anger of the article that Anet published on their main page, which I will probably regret, but how can they tell us to not buy gold from these companies if they take away all the methods of good old-style farming that leave us with methods that are monotenus, boring, and not profitable, compared to the fun, exciting, and profitable farming days of old. Farming was something for those people to do when they beat all the campaigns, now days everyone just quits for a few months, and then come back to see whats new, then quit again. I have personally seen dozens of guilds collapse due to the boredom of post-completion.
Anet nerfed mob farming with loot-scaling. Yeah, right. Bot companies are still active arn't they? DUH! THat's because they don't have to deal with the long hours of monotenus farming, the computers do it! Plus they get more buisness due to the people that lose hope and buy gold! If you don't get that, I'll put a real life situation in for you.
D.C. law states you cannot carry a handgun, the only thing that does it screw the good people, good people can't get guns for their protection and leisure, but law-breakers still can (or at least a high percentage can) because they know their way around (black market for you slow people).
Now transfer that into Guild Wars... vuala! you got yourself the same situation, the law-breakers (bots) still farm and get money and buisness (equivalent to robbing in D.C. case) while the good people (good people) can't get an efficiant amount of gold with the profit:time ratio.
All negative opinions will be ignored as this is a rant, and no one really cares what you have to say, neither do they care about what I just wrote, so why did you read it? Reflect on that instead of complain about what I wrote.

Are you speaking for Anet or against their policy?
Well, personally I think what it really takes is some skill and mostly luck. If you get that rare birthday mini or that rare drop, you're off to a good start. Also, a handful of lucky people were able to buy craploads of ecto when prices were reseted at the traders or exploiting trader prices. I know it's not likely something like this will every happen again, but you have to be at the right place at the right time I guess. Like, how I finally found a elemental sword and they're now worth almost nothing now.
Gold to me isn't really a big problem to be honest, unless someday I suddenly plan on buying all fow and uber weapons. That's just really time consuming, which I suppose it should be anyway... Just playing the game during the last event has netted me about 90k from clovers/ale. Probably could have gotten more, but I'm a lazy mofo.
Sure gold has gotten harder to come by. But most everything in the market got a lot cheaper by comparison.
I only actually farm once or twice a week for a couple hours. And I don't have any problem with money. I don't have stacks of ecto, but I'm sure I have more cash than 80% of GW players if not more.
At the risk of being ignored by the towering intellect the OP; isn't loot scaling to a large extent the result of the bot farmers that are used by the people who sell the gold? If there were no gold selling sites then the scaling would be far less important.
I play a few hours a day, if that, I buy 100 picks a fortnight for my TH track and still have over 200k in gold in storage. The closest I come to farming is the wurm run which happens to pay out okay as well as giving SS/LB and a weekly trip into FoW. Other than that all my cash comes from just playing the game; not that hard to do really.
Oh and kudos to Monty for that great and highly apt picture:>
If you want an ebay uniform but don't want to get banned, there's nothing standing between it and you but your own laziness. Gold is harder to get now, yes - which means all gold is effectively worth more. It's GOOD that all commodities have dropped in price. It means that more and more things are within the reach of players who never farm at all, but only play the game.

He's not saying he's an Anet employee, he's saying he's a killer of Anet employees, which isn't to say that the latter is in anyway better than the former.

Armour? (I am fully aware that the price did drop - but they also lost the insigna!)
Capture signets?
ID kits?
Salvage kits?
People that waste gold on money sinks - pay less.
People that just buy the basics - effectively pay more.
It's a good thing that I have a bit of gold lying around from the time when it was easy to get. And for the the people that just started - well when you don't have enough gold to capture SS - just think - you are now able to buy that Tormented curses staff for just 100k + 10 ectos! You save about 70 ectos! Good for you!

I got this far and stopped reading.
Either play the game according to the rules or don't play at all. If you don't like it, that doesn't give you a right to cheat. End of discussion.
Up until 3 days ago, I had in my account a little more than 160k
I had to get some commodities (sunglasses etc.) and I have probably half that amount.
I dont have that much need to farm to get gold, and if I need some I just do a chest run for those open chest in GW.
Gold Farmer are the problem with GW economy and the overpricing of some items. I support Anet on this. It may be true that some peoople disclose ways to farm or build for "Runners", but there's always clients.
I have like 5-10k at anyone time. When I want a new suit of armor I go to UW.
My new mes will need some Vabbi armor soon so I will farm for that. Then I will have 4 PVE characters with a single set of elite armor on each one, ZOMG I bought gold from a gold site /not.
I still dont have a single set of Chaos gloves though because I cant be asked to farm that much, but I would like a pair on each character too XD. Maybe I'll work on that some time.
